Het project bestaat uit 4 zorgwoningen en een afzonderlijk buurthuis waar in totaal 40 personen met een mentale beperking wonen.
We geloven dat een woonconcept voor mensen met een beperking vooral moet inzetten op intrinsieke woonkwaliteiten. Woningen die ontwikkeld worden uit de mogelijkheden eerder dan uit de beperkingen: “gewoon waar het kan, bijzonder waar het moet”.
We interpreteren het programma daarom als een groot huis in de brede zin van het woord. Een huis dat open is naar de buurt, maar de nodige geborgenheid biedt voor de gebruikers. Een huis met vele ruimtes waarbinnen iedere bewoner zijn eigen plek vindt.
Een goed leven is rijk aan belevingen, een goed leven is een verhaal. De postbode die zijn ronde doet, de tuinman die een boom snoeit, schoolkinderen die voorbij fietsen of een kat die voor het raam komt zitten... Het zijn allemaal kleine verhalen die beheerst de woning binnen sijpelen. Het zijn deze gebeurtenissen die de bewoners een plek in de wereld geven. De inplanting en de bewuste keuze om de site voor een groot deel publiek te maken speelt hierop in.
De woning schept nabijheid; een blik, een stem, een geluid, lichamelijk contact... Wonen met zorg is wonen waar iemand nabij is. Weloverwogen zichtassen en auditieve relaties zorgen voor overzicht en oriëntatie. Dit heeft niet alleen een functioneel nut, maar het zorgt er ook voor dat de bewoners zich nooit volledig dienen af te sluiten van de groep. Het gevoel van even op jezelf te zijn terwijl in de verte de geluiden van de andere bewoners aanwezig blijven.
Zowel in plan als in snede wordt deze nabijheid als uitgangspunt gebruikt, de architectuur als ruimtelijke vertaling van een functioneel en huiselijk concept. Een woning met vele facetten, een architectuur die zowel geborgen als uitdagend kan zijn.
